These are some of the most sublime landscapes the southern Namib Desert has to offer. From the rugged Tiras Mountain Reserve, across immense plains dotted with inselbergs (island mountains) to the Namib dune sea. The challenging 27 km crossing of the Namib Dune Sea is of course very much part of this safari’s appeal, as are the inspiring landscapes.
Arrive in Windhoek on day one, transfer, overnight accommodation and dinner arranged for you. Meet your guide, Andrew Gillies and fellow adventurers for briefing, sundowners and dinner together.
Day two is transfer day with lunch en-route, arriving at your overnight camp to meet the horses and crew before sundowners, dinner around the campfire and sleeping under the magnificent Milky Way. With zero light pollution, these skies are a wonder and a delight. See our Milky Way Blog
Having crossed the dune sea, we ride up the (very ephemeral - has not flowed for decades) Koichab river system before ascending to the highlands adjacent the home of the Namib’s, Namibia’s wild horses.
On our excursion day we visit the lookout point for the wild horses before visiting the coastal town of Luderitz and the ‘Ghost Town’ of Kolmanskop, the old German mining settlement with its surprising architecture.
Last day of your safari is a transfer from Aus to Windhoek International Airport arriving in time for flights departing after 18:00.
