Argentina's Sierra Chicas
Dates: 17 - 22 March 2019
Rates: US$ 2 375. for the full 5 days from Cordoba back to Cordoba
Like Namibia, Argentina is a land of big skies, wide open spaces with room to breathe. Estancia Los Potreros - ‘a little bit of heaven among the hilltops’ - is a functioning cattle ranch (estancia is a ranch in Spanish American) an hour’s transfer from Cordoba (link to Lonely Planet guide).
The estancia uses renewable energy sources, ‘home-grown and free-range’, and has their own wine label. Fully embracing the easy rhythm of the gaucho style of life, you will be riding both native Criollo’s and the smooth five-gated Peruvian Paso horses.
17th March Fly into Cordoba, Argentina. Transfers to Los Potreros between 08:00 and 20:00 included. If time permits we will be introduced to the gaucho style of riding - long legs, a deep seat and neck reining….much as we do, only with very different horses and tack. Welcome dinner with your hosts Kevin and Lou in their family home.
18th, 19th, 20th and 21st Long rides interspersed with traditional gaucho culture, history, food - including ‘asado’ which is much like our ‘braai’ - all washed down with Argentina’s fabulous Malbec wine. Visiting local places of interest, natural rock pools for a refreshing swim and picnics with long canters on the hilltops giving breath-taking views of the area. Try your hand at polo or some gaucho-games like sortija
21st March After breakfast transfer to Cordoba for onward flights, or visit the world heritage sites of the Jesuit Block
